Our Story

Since 1954, Swiss Chalet has been a beloved Canadian institution, serving our signature rotisserie chicken to generations of families. What began as a single restaurant in Toronto has grown into one of Canada's most recognized and trusted restaurant brands, with hundreds of locations across the country.

Our founder, Maurice Mauran, was inspired by the distinctive architecture and warm hospitality of Swiss mountain chalets. He created a restaurant concept that combined this welcoming atmosphere with a simple yet perfected menu centered around slow-roasted rotisserie chicken. The secret recipe for our famous Chalet sauce was developed during these early years and remains virtually unchanged to this day.

Throughout our history, we've remained committed to the values that made Swiss Chalet successful: quality ingredients, consistent preparation methods, generous portions, and fair prices. While we've evolved with the times—expanding our menu and embracing delivery and digital ordering—the core of our business remains the same: delicious rotisserie chicken served with our signature Chalet sauce.

Today, Swiss Chalet continues to be a place where Canadians gather to enjoy great food and create lasting memories. Whether you're dining in one of our restaurants or enjoying our meals delivered to your home, we're proud to be a part of Canadian dining tradition for over seven decades.

The Swiss Chalet Difference

Our Signature Rotisserie Chicken

What sets Swiss Chalet apart is our commitment to quality and consistency. Our rotisserie chicken is marinated for 24 hours in our special blend of herbs and spices before being slow-roasted on our custom rotisserie to achieve that perfect, juicy tenderness that we're famous for.

Our custom-designed rotisserie ovens cook chickens slowly as they rotate, allowing the meat to self-baste and develop its signature flavor and tenderness. Each chicken is carefully monitored throughout the cooking process to ensure it meets our exacting standards.

The Famous Chalet Sauce

Our legendary Chalet dipping sauce has been a closely guarded secret recipe since 1954. This distinctive sauce, with its complex blend of spices and savory notes, has become iconic in Canadian food culture and is the perfect complement to our rotisserie chicken.

Quality Ingredients

We source our chicken from Canadian farms where the birds are raised without the use of antibiotics and are fed a vegetable grain diet. All our ingredients are carefully selected to meet our high quality standards, and we prepare our food fresh daily in each of our kitchens.
